Back on the Wall – Slowly Returning to Climbing After Injury
It’s been six months since my shoulder injury, and I can finally say: I’m back! Well, at least slowly. My shoulder is now strong enough to handle light climbing, and I’m starting to ease my way back onto the wall.
Exploring Other Sports During Recovery
During my forced climbing break, I didn’t just sit around waiting—I used the time to rediscover other sports I used to enjoy.
I spent a lot of time road cycling, which kept my endurance up, and also got back into running, table tennis, and even frisbee (only with my uninjured shoulder—😉).
It was actually fun to explore different activities again, even if climbing was always on my mind.
But now, it’s late autumn, November is here, and one thing is certain: Kalymnos won’t happen this year. It sucks, but there’s no point dwelling on it. Instead, I’m focusing on getting back into climbing without rushing it and making sure I don’t get injured again.
Recovery and Moving Forward
I honestly couldn’t even tell you exactly what my injury was called. The doctor told me, but to be honest, I was so demotivated at the time that I didn’t even want to know any specifics. I kind of hate hospitals and doctors if they brind me bad news...I just shut down at these moments.
Nevertheless I don´t really hate them at all... it was just the circumstances that caused this reaction. Maybe I just hated myself for causing a stupid injury. I guess that is more true to the story.
The only thing that mattered to me was hearing that it would eventually heal and that there were exercises I could do to speed up recovery.
And that’s what I did—I stuck to the rehab exercises, stayed patient, and now, three months later, I can finally start climbing again. Slowly, carefully, and with a huge sense of gratitude for being able to get back on the wall.
I’ll keep taking it easy, but I’m excited to see where the next months take me. Hopefully, injury-free this time! 🤞💪
