August – Chasing Shade and Granite Crimps

August was an extremely hot month, which made training and climbing a bit more challenging. With the temperatures soaring, we had to escape to the mountains, heading to the Zillertal or Ötztal for climbing sessions. Even there, we had to carefully choose shady crags to avoid the brutal summer sun.

Crimping on Granite – A Fun Change

One of the highlights of the month was getting back on granite. Holding onto small crimps on solid, textured rock feels completely different from limestone or indoor holds. It requires precision, finger strength, and proper footwork, which made every session both challenging and rewarding.

Unlike big endurance routes on overhanging limestone, granite climbing is more about control and technical execution. I really enjoyed working on shorter, powerful climbs that forced me to trust my feet and keep my fingers engaged without overgripping.

The Heat Didn't Stop the Stoke

Even though the conditions weren’t ideal for long sessions, every trip to the mountains felt like an adventure. Climbing in cool alpine air, surrounded by incredible scenery, was the perfect way to make the most of the heat.

Now, with summer slowly coming to an end, I’m looking forward to more comfortable temperatures and some proper training sessions again. But for now, I’ll take every chance to crimp hard on granite while the good weather lasts! 💪🔥
